A little dress and girly swimsuit 

A little dress to wear over swimsuits during the holidays.  A lightweight piece to sew in a variety of fabrics.  There are two options: a version with closed sides like a dress, and an open sided poncho style beach version.  Remember to check the length according to your tastes before cutting your fabric.  In thicker fabrics this pattern can easily become an everyday dress for sunny days.

A little girly swimsuit for the beach.  Using lycra fabric is advised for better shape retention.  For stitching you could use a stretch stitch or an overlock stitch on your sewing machine.  You could also use a 4 thread stitch on your serger (overlocker).  0.5cm wide elastic is advised.  It needs to be soft / supple.  You could attach it using a serger (lowering the cutting blade) or with a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.  The edges of the ruffles can be left raw if using lycra fabric, alternatively a rolled hem makes a pretty finish.
